European Cooperation Day – Favignana Palermo Malta Ustica e Mahdia Events

A series of events will take place on 3 October  in Favignana, Palermo, Malta, Ustica and, and on 1 October in Mahdia (Tunisia), involving the local population to raise awareness and remember the benefits of cooperation, the actions implemented by the European Union to increase cultural understanding and to overcome economic disparities in the territories.

On the initiative of the Managing Authority (link to the page) of the Italy-Malta and Italy-Tunisia programmes , the partners of the AMPPA project Marine protected areas and artisanal fishing (FB page) and the partners of the MED Dé.Co.U.Plages project – Methodologies of sustainable economy for coastal waste usable by beaches have worked together to organize various territorial events that involve citizens on the issues of environmental awareness, but also of peace and collaboration between peoples, for the construction of more united and aware communities.

Monday, October 3 in Favignana from 10.30 am at the Praia Beach, with the involvement of the students of the “Antonino Rallo” Comprehensive Institute, the “Ecological Beach: games and activities on beaches protection, coastal biodiversity and environmental protection” is scheduled. The event will take place simultaneously in Gozo (Malta).

Starting from 12.30 pm there will be the FLASH MOB “A Mediterranean of peace and cooperation”, realized in collaboration with the event “A Scuola di OpenCoesione” of the PO FESR Sicilia 2014/2020: live streaming from Favignana, Palermo, Ustica and Gozo (Malta) there will be an initiative that will involve hundreds of young people, many flags, choreographies, colors, languages, stories and traditions to launch a unique message, of cooperation between peoples. It will be possible to follow the event live on the Facebook page PO FESR Sicilia 2014/2020 and the Italia – Malta and Italia-Tunisia Programmes.

In Ustica at 3:00pm, the inauguration of the photographic exhibition “By land and by sea:  places to be protected” is scheduled, which will offer insights and food for thought through the evocative images made within the Marine Protected Area.

And again at the same time in Favignana, Gozo and Ustica at 5 pm the event “Cycling for peace” is scheduled, an ideal relay race across the Mediterranean where anyone with their bike can participate in a symbolic walk through the islands to bring – in a particular relay – the flag of peace and the message of the importance of environmental sustainability, offering a moment of reflection on what is happening on our Planet. In Mahdia (Tunisia) all the listed events will take place on October 1, 2022.
