Information on the use of cookies – Art. 13 Privacy Code
Below we provide transparent information regarding the use of so-called cookies on this website, in compliance with Directive 2009/136/EC and the related provision of the Italian Data Protection Authority No. 229/2014.
Definition of “cookie”
Cookies are small pieces of text (letters and/or numbers) sent by the website and stored by your browser on the device you use (computer, tablet, smartphone). They contain information to be reused during the same visit to the site or later, even after several days. Cookies are stored based on user preferences.
In addition, with the introduction of HTML5, various forms of local storage and similar technologies are available, such as web beacons and transparent GIFs, which can be used to collect information about user behavior, preferences, and use of services.
In this document, for simplicity, we will use the term “cookie” to refer to cookies and all similar technologies.
Types of cookies
Based on their characteristics and use, cookies can be divided into two main categories:
Technical or session cookies. These cookies are essential for the proper functioning of the website and are used to manage login and access to restricted areas. Their duration is strictly limited to the browsing session (they are deleted when the browser is closed), except for cookies with a longer duration aimed solely at recognizing the visitor’s device for a limited period—through an alphanumeric code generated during the first access. Disabling these cookies may compromise the use of services accessible via login. The public part of the website remains normally accessible.
This category also includes so-called “analytics cookies”, provided they are used in aggregated form to collect and analyze traffic and monitor performance and usage of the site anonymously. These cookies, while not identifying the user, allow, for example, detection of whether the same user returns at different times. They also help monitor the system and improve its performance and usability. Disabling these cookies does not result in any loss of functionality.
The use of these cookies is allowed even without the user's consent.
Profiling and marketing cookies. These are persistent cookies used to identify (anonymously or otherwise) user preferences and improve the browsing experience by creating specific profiles and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed during web browsing. Italiamalta.eu does not use this type of cookie.
Third-party cookies
When visiting a website, you may receive cookies both from the visited site (“first-party cookies”) and from sites managed by other organizations (“third-party cookies”). The management of information collected by third parties is governed by their respective privacy policies, which we recommend you consult. To ensure greater transparency and convenience, the table below lists the types of cookies used and links to the relevant information notices, along with instructions on how to manage third-party cookies.
| Cookie Type | Duration | Purpose | Third-party Data Controller | Third-party privacy/cookie policy link |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Analytics | Persistent | Statistical analysis and reporting | Google Inc | http://www.google.com/intl/en/analytics/privacyoverview.html |
Cookie duration
Some cookies (session cookies) remain active only until the browser is closed or the logout command is executed. Other cookies “survive” after the browser is closed and are available during subsequent visits by the user. These cookies are called persistent and their duration is set by the server at the time of their creation. In some cases an expiration date is set, in others the duration is unlimited. Except for cookies whose information is stored exclusively for technical purposes, ItaliaMalta does not use persistent cookies.
However, while browsing web pages, users may interact with sites managed by third parties that may create or modify persistent and profiling cookies.
Cookie management
Users can decide whether or not to accept cookies by using their browser settings.
Warning: the total or partial disabling of technical cookies may compromise the use of website features reserved for registered users. On the other hand, public content remains accessible even if cookies are completely disabled. Disabling third-party cookies does not affect browsing in any way.
Settings can be defined specifically for different websites and web applications. In addition, the best browsers allow different settings for first-party and third-party cookies.
Through the browser options menu, it is possible to manage and define whether to accept different types of cookies and to delete them.

Data communication and disclosure
Data collected through cookies may be processed only by specifically authorized personnel and by data processors. Furthermore, such data may be communicated to third parties only if specifically appointed as data processors for the performance of certain services related to existing relationships (e.g. consultants, service companies).
